Dog Nail Clipping, Haircuts, and Trims
![]() FACIAL TRIM AND HAIR CUT
Depending on your breed of dog, he or she may be prone to excessive hair in the face, heavy shedding, or a general messy appearance. These are all good reasons for your dog to have professional hair cuts on a regular basis. Not only will your dog look great after a grooming session, but your pooch will also feel wonderful too. Trimming away hair covering the face allows a dog to see better and decreases irritation. Cleaning away any matted and thick seasonal undercoat helps your dog regulate their body temperature. While some dogs look precious when they are a bit scruffy, generally your fur baby will look their best after a professional grooming session. It is important to remember, we advocate hair cuts and trims, NOT shaving away a dog's coat. Their skin is thinner and more delicate than human skin and removing the majority of a dog's fur can lead to skin damage and possible permanent damage to the dog's fur. |

SANI-TRIM
This is the term used to describe cleaning the areas surrounding your dog’s rectum and private parts. While many pet parents do not immediately think of these areas, keeping your dog trimmed here will also promote good health.
While it is true for all dog breeds, dogs with long and curly hair are especially susceptible to fecal matter clinging on to their anal areas. Clearly, this is an unacceptable and unsanitary situation for dogs and their owners.
A sani-trim must be gentle and done carefully. As you can imagine, dogs do not enjoy having these areas trimmed and touched. Our groomers use the following steps to get your pup trim and tidy.
• Using scissors (always parallel to the dog’s skin) we cut away longer tangles and any residual clumps.
• After tangle removal, we trim the rectal area to an even length. When we use clippers, we are careful to avoid touching them to your dog’s skin.
• Clippers are our tool of choice for trimming the belly fur and area around female dog’s private areas.
• In male dogs, we use scissors (parallel to the dog’s skin) to trim the fur that always becomes wet when the dog urinates.
Keeping these areas trimmed helps keep your dog clean and comfortable. Additionally, it keeps bacteria at bay.

NAIL TRIMMING
Trimming your dog’s nails is an essential part of dog care. A dog’s toenails grow constantly. Before dogs became domesticated and part of our loving homes, regular activities maintained a dog’s short nails with no human intervention needed.
Trimmed toenails are vital for your dog’s wellbeing. Without proper care, your dog can experience several unpleasant effects from long nails. These include:
• Nails that crack or chip are painful for dogs and often need vet care to heal.
• Toenails that are too long can cause pain when your dog walks or stands.
• Long nails tend to tear easily
• If left uncared for, a dog’s nails can curl under and embed into the pads of your dog’s paws.
Understandably, many pet parents are hesitant to trim or file their dog’s nails. We find this is because the nails have small blood vessels running through them up to a certain point. Nicking a blood vessel is painful for the dog and usually traumatic for the dog’s owner.
Our groomers have years of experience and training in canine nail care. We are happy to trim your dog’s nails as a part of the grooming service.
If you are a busy pet parent, or if you have a dog that is challenging to take to appointments, consider trying our mobile grooming service. We can help make your life and your dog’s life simpler and easier.
